Amy’s Expert Comments

“The Starlight D–G Cup Side Support Bra is widely regarded as fitting true to size. With consistent reports of excellent support, uplift, and accurate sizing. Stick with your usual band and cup size for a comfortable, supportive fit. Unless you’re particularly shallow on top, in which case a smaller cup might work better.”

Pair the Freya Starlight Side Support Bra with some Freya Underwear to complete your look.

Caring for Your Bra

Just like your bra takes care of you, you can return the favour and take care of it too! It’s ideal to wash your bra every time you wear it, but this may vary on whether it was a chilled day with your regular bra or an intense workout in your sports bra.

To extend the lifespan of your bra we recommend you hand wash it in cool water with a mild detergent and dry flat in the shade. Most non wired bras can be machine washed. Ensure the clips are fastened and use a garment bag to prevent damage. Wash on a cool, gentle cycle avoiding fabric softeners. If you opt to line dry, hang your bra in half, not from the shoulder strap or back strap. Avoid using pegs. Never tumble dry, bleach, iron or dry clean your bra.

Please always check the manufacturer’s guidelines for how to wash and care for your  bra. We want your bra to last as long as possible so please visit caring for your  bra for further information.

Common questions

Are balcony bras good for large breasts?

Yes. A well-fitting balcony bra can provide excellent support for larger breasts.

Look for a supportive band and cups designed for your size. Many fuller-bust balcony bras also feature structured or seamed cups for additional lift and shaping.

Correct sizing is especially important. Our Determine Your Size guide can help you find a good starting size.

If you're unsure of your current size, our Determine Your Size guide is a great place to start.

More about Non-Padded Bras

Are non-padded sports bras cooler and more breathable?

They can be. Without additional padding, these sports bras often feel lighter against your body. Many also use breathable or moisture-managing fabrics designed to keep you comfortable during exercise. This can make non-padded styles particularly appealing during hot or sweaty workouts. Breathability still varies between individual designs and fabrics.

Are non-padded sports bras good for running and high-impact exercise?

Yes, provided the sports bra is designed for high-impact activities. Non-padded cups can still provide excellent movement control during running and vigorous exercise. The bra's overall construction is more important than whether the cups contain padding. Always check the recommended support level for your chosen activity.

Are underwired bras better for large breasts?

Underwired bras can be a great choice for larger and fuller breasts.

The wire helps support and separate each breast, while the band and cups provide lift and shaping. However, underwire isn't essential for good support.

Do big bust sports bras really reduce breast bounce?

If nipple coverage is important to you, check the cup construction before choosing your bra.

What breast shape suits a balcony bra?

Balcony bras can work particularly well when you want lift with a more open neckline.

However, breast shape can affect how the upper edge of the cup sits. Some women may experience gaping or spilling even when the size appears correct.

Understanding your shape can make choosing much easier. Our Breast Shape Guide can help you learn more about your breasts.

What clothes can I wear with a balcony bra?

Balcony bras work particularly well underneath tops and dresses with wide, square or lower necklines.

Their open cup shape can provide lift without as much bra showing above your clothing. Wider-set straps can also work nicely beneath wider necklines.

Always check your bra underneath your outfit, as coverage varies between individual balcony styles.

What is a balcony bra and what does it do?

A balcony bra has a more open neckline than a traditional full-cup bra. The straps are usually positioned wider apart, creating a flattering, lifted shape.

Balcony bras provide less coverage across the upper breast while still offering plenty of support.

What is the difference between a non-padded and padded bra?

Non-padded bras don't contain additional padding within the cups. They usually feel lighter and allow more of your natural breast shape to show.

Padded bras provide additional coverage and can create a smoother, more defined shape underneath clothing.

Both can provide excellent support. Our Bra Styles Guide can help you decide which style suits you.

Why does the underwire dig into my breasts or underarms?

Underwire discomfort can have several causes. Your cup may be too small, the wire may be the wrong shape, or the bra style may not suit your breasts.

The wire should surround your breast tissue rather than resting on it. It also shouldn't painfully press into your underarms.

If this keeps happening, check your size using our Determine Your Size guide. Understanding your breast shape can also help you choose a better-fitting style.
