Caring for Your Bra

Just like your bra takes care of you, you can return the favour and take care of it too! It’s ideal to wash your bra every time you wear it, but this may vary on whether it was a chilled day with your regular bra or an intense workout in your sports bra.

To extend the lifespan of your bra we recommend you hand wash it in cool water with a mild detergent and dry flat in the shade. Most non wired bras can be machine washed. Ensure the clips are fastened and use a garment bag to prevent damage. Wash on a cool, gentle cycle avoiding fabric softeners. If you opt to line dry, hang your bra in half, not from the shoulder strap or back strap. Avoid using pegs. Never tumble dry, bleach, iron or dry clean your bra.

Please always check the manufacturer’s guidelines for how to wash and care for your  bra. We want your bra to last as long as possible so please visit caring for your  bra for further information.

Are black sports bras good for everyday workouts?

Yes. A black sports bra is a practical and versatile choice for almost any workout.

Are padded bras good for large breasts?

Yes. Padded bras can work very well for larger and fuller breasts.

Lightly padded or moulded cups can provide shaping and nipple coverage without adding too much bulk. Support mainly comes from the band and cup construction rather than the padding itself.

If you're unsure of your size, our Determine Your Size guide is a great place to start.

Are padded sports bras good for running and high-impact exercise?

Are underwired bras better for large breasts?

Underwired bras can be a great choice for larger and fuller breasts.

The wire helps support and separate each breast, while the band and cups provide lift and shaping. However, underwire isn't essential for good support.

The best bra is one that fits your individual shape correctly. Our Bra Fit Hub has plenty of advice to help you find the right fit.

This can help control uncomfortable movement when running, jumping or changing direction. Just check that your chosen bra is designed for high-impact exercise.

Do padded bras make your breasts look bigger?

Not always. A lightly padded bra can provide shape and coverage without noticeably increasing your bust size.

Thicker padding and push-up styles can create more volume or enhance cleavage. Moulded cups often focus more on creating a smooth, rounded shape.

Check the individual cup construction if you want shaping without extra volume.

Do padded sports bras provide more support?

Not necessarily. Padding can provide extra coverage and help create a smooth, rounded shape. Most sports bra support comes from the band, cups and overall construction. A non-padded sports bra can provide just as much support when properly designed. Choose your sports bra based on its support level rather than padding alone.

More about Padded or Moulded Sports Bras

Do padded sports bras stop nipples showing?

Padded sports bras generally provide more nipple coverage than thin, non-padded styles. Light padding or moulded cups create an extra layer between your breasts and clothing. This can provide a smoother appearance underneath fitted activewear. Coverage can vary, so check the cup construction when choosing your bra.

How do I stop breast bounce when running?

You probably won't eliminate every bit of breast movement, but the right sports bra can significantly reduce it.

Choose a high-impact design and make sure the band and cups fit correctly. A band that's too loose or cups that don't properly contain your breasts can reduce support.

Try our Sports Bra Movement Test before running to check how well your bra controls movement.

This makes them popular with many fuller-bust women. Prefer going wirefree? Don't worry. A well-designed wirefree sports bra can still provide excellent movement control. What does a padded bra actually do?

A padded bra uses extra material within the cups to provide shape, coverage and a smooth appearance.

The amount of padding varies between styles. Some bras are lightly padded, while others use thicker padding to create more volume.

Padding doesn't automatically mean more support. Our Bra Styles Guide can help you compare different bra styles.

What is the best high impact sports bra for large breasts?

For larger breasts, look for strong support rather than simply choosing the tightest bra. Bra-sized designs can provide a more precise fit than standard S–XL sizing. Encapsulation styles are also worth considering. These support each breast individually and can provide excellent movement control. A firm band, supportive cups and adjustable straps are also important. Ultimately, the best sports bra is one that fits your body properly.

What is the best running sports bra for large breasts?

Look for a high-impact sports bra specifically designed to support larger and fuller breasts.

Bra-sized cups, a firm band and adjustable straps are useful features. Encapsulation or combination designs can also provide excellent movement control without relying entirely on compression.

Start by checking your size with our Determine Your Size guide.

What is the difference between a padded and non-padded bra?

Padded bras contain additional material within the cups, providing extra coverage and a more defined shape.

Non-padded bras usually feel lighter and allow your natural breast shape to show more. They can still provide excellent support, particularly when they have structured or seamed cups.

Neither is better for everyone. Choose whichever feels comfortable and gives you the shape and coverage you prefer.

What should I look for when choosing a black sports bra?

Start with support and fit rather than colour alone.

Think about your activity and whether you need low, medium or high-impact support. You can also choose between underwired, wirefree, padded and non-padded designs.

Most importantly, make sure your bra fits correctly. Our How Should a Sports Bra Fit? guide explains what to look for.

What size high impact sports bra should I buy?

Start with your current, correctly fitted bra size. However, remember that sizing can vary between brands and styles. Your band should feel firm without restricting your breathing. Your breasts should also sit completely inside the cups without spilling or gaping. Don't automatically size up because a sports bra feels firmer. High impact bras are designed to feel secure during movement.
